Not a therapy session

This conversation isn't a therapy session. The intention is to help you make an informed decision about starting therapy.

Not a venting session

The purpose is to help you understand how therapy can support you in the long run.

One consultation per person, please

We offer this consultation only once per person. Please come prepared with your questions.

A journey, not a destination

Think of this as your first step on a journey. We're here to make that first step as easy and stress-free as possible.

Our Mission

Lighting the way to better mental health understanding

The Challenge We Address

People around us, especially young adults, are really struggling with mental health. Yet, their understanding about therapy, how it works, and how it's different from a medical consultation is inadequate. Due to this, mental health professionals also struggle at being effective at their job.

We want to help people be able to speak to an expert in a judgement-free environment, understand therapy, and get their questions addressed before they take that important step in their life.

Our Approach

Small Steps

A little light can go a long way—we believe in taking small, steady steps toward greater awareness and openness.

Supportive Environment

Creating a safe, judgment-free space where people can explore their questions about therapy.

Empowering Through Knowledge

Helping individuals make informed decisions about their mental health journey through education and guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our consultation service

Yes, every therapist volunteering with The Little Lantern is a certified professional. We ensure all psychologists are qualified and deeply passionate about mental health advocacy. Once your session is confirmed, you’ll receive an email with the details of the psychologist you’ll be speaking with.

During your one-hour online consultation, you'll have a friendly and confidential conversation with a qualified psychologist. This is your opportunity to learn about therapy, ask questions, and understand how it might benefit you. Remember, this isn't a therapy session but rather an informative discussion to help you make informed decisions about your mental health journey.

The Little Lantern is a fully volunteer-led initiative with no revenue operations. These sessions are offered at no cost to you.

You absolutely can! However, The Little Lantern focuses on helping you explore what therapy is without the pressure of committing to it. Our sessions are designed to address misconceptions, clarify expectations, and help you identify the right first step towards mental well-being.

We recommend doing independent research to find a therapist who feels right for you. This helps you avoid the natural bias of continuing with the same therapist. However, if you feel it’s absolutely necessary to work with the same psychologist, we can help you reconnect with them.

We don’t provide direct referrals, as we want to stay neutral and empower you to make the best choice for yourself. However, we’re happy to guide you on how to find a good therapist and what to consider when choosing one.

After the session, we’d love to hear your feedback and provide any follow-up reading materials you might need. If you found the session helpful, consider sharing The Little Lantern with your friends and family.
